Hurt So Good Massage is now proud to offer Certified Pregnancy Massage: including labor support massage, postpartum massage and newborn massage instruction. Research shows that pregnancy massage strengthens the immune system, decreases blood pressure and stress hormones, shortens labor time and helps restore the body during the postpartum phase. We will provide relief for the common discomforts a mother may be experiencing during and after her pregnancy.

Swedish Massage is one of the most relaxing massage modalities a therapist can use to eliminate stress. This massage uses long gliding strokes, kneading and other movements focused on the superficial layers of the body to reduce recovery time from a strain, increase oxygen flow throughout the body and release toxins from muscles. Swedish Massage melts tension away and sooth muscles by applying pressure and a gliding motion in the same direction that blood flows to the heart. This type massage will address your physical and functional needs by relieving stiffness, numbness and pain. It will increase flexibility and stimulate your body’s natural pain killers (endorphins).  Many of our clients use Swedish massage as a regular program for stress management.

Therapeutic Massage, also known as Neuromuscular therapy, Trigger Point therapy or Myotherapy, is a type of massage that addresses specific muscles at various points of the body. This type of massage has positive benefits for those who suffer from chronic pain. This concentrated session focuses on a specific muscle area to relieve pain rather than just broadly treating tensions over surface muscles. Therapeutic massage is very effective for low back pain, soft tissue injuries and muscle spasms. At the heart of where our name came from, this treatment may have a "Hurts So Good" feel to it, but the pressure from this massage will alleviate any deeper muscle tension and pain you are experiencing. We consistently communicate with our clients during this massage to ensure that the pressure is not too much or too little and we always respond accordingly. Many of our clients use this type of massage as a regular program for specific medical issues or to manage the pain caused by an active lifestyle.
-- TMJD Pain
This session focuses specifically on the muscles in and around the jaw area. Here we focus on the Temporomandibular Joint area, externally and internally (using gloves). The work done during this session will significantly reduce the pain and tension caused by TMJ disorder.
-- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

This session focuses on the muscles and joints surrounding the median nerve which stretches from the neck, down the arm, to the hand. During this session we will engage the muscles that intervene the median nerve, use mobilization techniques and find trigger points that reeducate your neuromuscular system to reduce and eventually eliminate pain.

-- Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is a group of painful nerve impingements put under pressure by neck and chest muscles that attach to the collar bone and 1st rib. Clients with TOS have a pain and numbness in their arm and hand. In this session we will focus on the area in front of the neck and find the trigger points that are causing pain in your arm and hand.

-- Torticollis (Stiff Neck)

Torticollis is characterized by an anabnormal flexion, extension or twisting of the neck. This is typically caused by the involuntary contractions and spasms of neck muscles. For example: A person who has slept in an awkward position may wake up in pain and discomfort, forcing them to hold their head to one side in a rotated state. A Therapeutic Massage can typically help with this type of condition. In this session we will locate the shortened, hypertonic muscles and get them all back to normal.

-- Adhesive Capsulitis (Frozen Shoulder)

Frozen Shoulder is a painful condition that severely limits the range of motion in the shoulder joint, making it appear to be frozen. Therapeutic Massage is a good modaltiy for this condition because it helps reduce scar tissue and increases blood flow to the injured area. Several massage treatments are usually needed to increase your range of motion and you may not feel relief until a few treatments have passed. During these sessions we will combine different techniques to apply steady pressure, release adhesions/scar tissue and reduce stiffness and tension in that area.

-- Bursitis Pain

Bursae sacs are fluid filled sacs that lubricate the joints to help them move smoothly. Bursitis is a painful inflamation condition that occurs in large joint areas such as the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee. During this session we apply focused massage therapy techniques to the muscles in the troubled joint area. This helps reenergize and improve physiological activity.

-- Whiplash

Whiplash is usually caused by an auto accident or sports injury. When the neck and head are forcibly whipped forward and back, or side to side, soft muscle tissue, tendons and ligaments can be damaged. Severe whiplash can even damage the spine, discs and nerves in the vertebral area. Therapeutic Massage is a very effective treatment for whiplash and similar neck sprains and strains.  During this session we will apply techniques that help release muscle tension, increase range of motion and restore balance to your musculoskeletal system.

Deep Tissue Massage is an intensive, deep-reaching, cross fiber massage technique intended to work out the stubborn knots and chronic muscle tension commonly found throughout the body. This technique may cause a slight discomfort and a soreness that can last a couple of days before yielding the desired results. During this session we will use a lighter massage to warm up the muscles and then apply direct, strong pressure and cross friction on the grain of the muscles. This massage is good for athletes, fitness buffs and massage regulars.

-- Fibromyalgia Pain

Fibromyalgia usually causes stiffness and aches in areas throughout the body. Therapeutic Massage is a very important part of the treatment for Fibromyalgia because it assists in the removal of waste from around the muscle and increases the blood/nutrient flow to that area for better oxygen intake. We believe nothing works fatster than a massage to reduce the stiffness and soreness that stems from fibromyalgia. During this session we also administer muscle stretching around specific joint areas to reduce muscle pain and increase range of motion.

-- Arthritis Pain

Muscles tighten up in joint areas to protect bone and to compensate for any damage that has been inflicted as Arthritis progresses. Therapeutic Massage helps to alleviate the symptoms of arthritis by focusing on the muscles, ligaments and tendons that surround the bone and cartilage in the joints. Our goal here is to restore balance to your body and give you greater flexibility so that you can enojoy more pain-free days. During this session we will use very focused massage to relieve tension in the small muscles around your arthritic joints. This technique reduces joint pain, improves blood and lymph circulation, and causes swelling will go down in that area.

-- Tendonitis Pain

Tendonitis is an inflammation of the muscle fibers that attache muscles to bone, aka the tendon. Terms like Golfer's Elbow and Tennis Elbow also refer to tendonitis. Other common conditions are Rotator Cuff Tendonitis and Patellar Tendonitis. Tendonitis usually causes pain and tenderness near the elbow, shoulder, knee, wrist, hip and heel joints. This pain gets worse with movement. During this session we will use a specific type of massage friction to help reduce pain and improve blood flow. This frictiion technique also helps prevent the formation of adhesions and scar tissue in those areas.

An Athletic Massage is typically used before and after a sporting event. It includes stretching, to help prevent injury, and Therapeutic Massage to energize multiple muscle groups. This type massage is used for preventative and for muscle management purposes. It is typically used by athletes who are training and in competition.  During this session we will use different massage modalities and stretching techniques to improve flexibility and range of motion. This massage will also help stimulate the nervous system, for better performance, and help reduce the chances of muscle injury.
